Every person has a story, every person creates a narrative; to explain why things happen the way they do. As babies. we create a non-verbal narrative of how we expect the world to treat us based on our experiences and our caregivers and their experiences, knowledge, and wisdom.
Some call this an inner working model, it's our road map of what will happen and what we need to do to thrive and survive. it's a narrative we create that defines us, from the moment we are born we seek connections and patterns of behaviour that we weave into the story of who we are and how we expect others to respond to all of us. We remember this story, it is hard-wired into our memory, and strategies are developed to either change this story, improve self-esteem, or keep us safe(not all strategies will be successful and some may need to change with time)
As we grow we tell ourselves stories to justify our actions; and to create a role for ourselves; hero, victim, saviour, helper.
We create shadow sides of us, that hide and are triggered by other people, and the first step to unlocking potential is to understand these shadows, embrace them like friends and find ways to change the dance steps of our interactions, and so we believe enough to write a new story.
